Black Oscars thrive in freshwater tanks with a stable pH range of 6.0-7.5 and temperatures between 75-80°F (24-27°C). They require a large tank with plenty of swimming space and hiding spots to accommodate their active and territorial nature. A varied diet of high-quality pellets, live foods like worms or feeder fish, and occasional frozen foods will keep them healthy and vibrant. Due to their size and aggression, Black Oscars are best suited for experienced aquarists. They are compatible with other large, robust species but should be kept away from smaller or more peaceful fish. Regular water changes and efficient filtration are crucial to maintaining water quality for these messy eaters.
